Most Effective Ways to Get 1 Million Views on TikTok

“Creativity is intelligence having fun.”

Since lockdown began, TikTok suddenly became very famous. Despite being existed since a couple of years prior to 2020, the app just started to thrive this year. Many people that just download the app out of curiosity, started to get addicted to watching all the memes videos on TikTok. Once people are addicted to watching it, it’s natural for them to start posting videos — just for fun. Then, from starting to posting random videos — some started to wonder, ‘how do I get more views from this?’ In this post I’m going to share ‘Most Popular Ways to Get 1 Million Views on TikTok’ based on my experience — (IKR I have overall 1 Million Views on TikTok (in less than 100 posts)! I could not even believe it at first!)

Create ‘Relatable’ Content

One thing I learn the most from some of my viral videos on TikTok is that people like it if the video is relatable to their life. It’s just human nature to want to be involved with something relatable to them. Relatable content could be many things. For example, one of my most viral videos was when I made a video about how terrible the weather in the UK is. This video went viral because many people relate to this. Many people understand the frustration of living in a place where the weather is just constantly terrible — hence because of this, my video went viral because many likes the video. So if you want your video to be viral, the first thing you need to bear in mind is to create ‘relatable’ content.

Use ‘Viral’ Songs on TikTok

The second most important thing is to use viral songs on TikTok. There are so many good songs out there that sometimes we want to use to create a video — this, of course, is absolutely fine, but it would be harder for the video to go viral. This is because TikTok algorithm is more likely to put viral songs on people FYP. Now if you don’t know what FYP is, FYP is basically For You Page, it’s the page that appears on people TikTok timeline. FYP is very important because that’s where 90% of my views came from. My viewers don’t know me, or don’t even care about who I was, what they care about is the video that I create. So if they haven’t followed me, the only way they will find my video is from FYP — and this only can happen, if TikTok, for whatever reason, decided that my video should be placed in their FYP. This is why I said that using viral songs is important because it’s one of the most important ways to get into people FYP.

Create ‘Debatable’ Content

Another one I would recommend is to create a debatable content. ‘But what do you mean by debatable?’ — What I mean by this is create anything that people would love to argue, and therefore, they will comment on your videos. The more people comment on your videos, the more likely (I guarantee you this) your video will go viral. For example, I created a video about racism in the UK (as a joke though), but the video went viral because so many — and I mean literally many people — commented on the video. Some people say horrible things of course but many others say positive things, and many also — as I mentioned before — feel related to the video. Another example would be, I created a video about why living in the UK is better than the US (again, as a joke though), but people just started to comment lots of things (that to me does not even make sense). The thing is, I didn’t expect my videos to went viral. But when more videos started to get viral, I realised that people love to comment on something they either — disagree of — or relatable to them.

Be Yourself!

You might underestimate this part but honestly, this is very important. You need to be yourself and not care about whether people will like your videos or not. You need to not focus on ‘how to get views’, but focus on ‘creating great content that brings you fulfilment’. This is important because if you don’t enjoy creating content, or not being yourself when you create any of the content — your viewers and your followers can tell. This is not Instagram, there is no filter on TikTok (okay there is but you know what I mean). People on TikTok are real, it’s video-based, not picture-based. That’s why your viewers can tell if you’re just making TikTok to get views. So, be yourself, create content that you actually want to create, don’t think about the views — because if you enjoy what you’re doing (and having fun of course), your TikTok will grow organically, — and that’s my friend, is the best part of being a content creator on TikTok.

I made Tik Tok for fun and got 250,000 views

So the lockdown begins, and suddenly everyone has nothing to do. Of course, unless you are a frontline worker, you have to go to work and save lives, which is very much appreciated by everyone. Your hard work has saved so many lives, and for that, I would like to pay tribute and thank you as much as I can. But for the rest of us, we just have to stay at home, with literally nothing to do. For some reason, Tik Tok suddenly came into everyone’s phone. For just one second, everyone suddenly became a Tik Tokers.

I downloaded Tik Tok last year but never posted anything. I barely check the app, maybe just once in a while, like when I can’t sleep at night. But since the lockdown begins, which was in March (in the UK), I had too much free time that I decided to constantly check the app. I noticed that many people were on Tik Tok, more than before. The videos that were uploaded also very much relatable with my life. Stay at home with nothing to do. People have been making memes about the whole situation, and I find it quite entertaining. It wasn’t just the memes though, people were also sharing their story, which makes me feel like we’re in this together, that I’m not alone.

With that, I started to think maybe I should upload something too. I mean, after all, I’m a social media girl. But I waited for a few weeks. It wasn’t until mid-April that I uploaded my first video. I made a ‘Cannibal’ dance, which was very famous back then. The video was doing okay, I didn’t get many likes or followers, which I expected. I knew it would be hard to suddenly become famous on a new social media platform that I have just started. Besides, I wasn’t putting much effort into that video. I just did it for fun.

I need to highlight here that I did not follow anyone, still has not followed anyone on Tik Tok. I have not told anyone that knows me in real life my Tik Tok username. Now, they know that I have Tik Tok, and I shared some of the videos on my Instagram, but I hide my username. Unless they actually stalk me, my friends and family or my Instagram followers, in general, won’t find my account. I did it on purpose because I want to see it myself if I can do well on Tik Tok only based on my creativity. I want to see if people (strangers) like my videos, and if they actually like the content I created. It was just my curiosity that made me start uploading videos on Tik Tok.

After uploading my first videos, I uploaded several other videos after that. I realized that I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Tik Tok feels like half YouTube and half Instagram, which is what I have been looking for. I love Instagram but sometimes I want to make and edit videos, but I find YouTube takes a lot of hard work and commitment, as filming and editing videos for YouTube takes literally 5 years! (Okay it’s not 5 years, but it takes a long time, you know what I mean).

Because I enjoyed making Tik Tok, I started to think maybe I could put a bit more effort, and film somewhere with good lighting. I like outdoor scenery so whenever I go for a walk (which is allowed once a day), I record for 15 seconds. I’m lucky that I live in the city centre, so there was quite a lot of nice things to record while I’m going out for a walk. So I posted some of those. I get more views than I expected, but it wasn’t a lot, it was just between 500–1000 views. But still, I wasn’t looking for views, I just did it because I enjoyed it, and considering that those 500–1000 people that see my videos are strangers, I was actually impressed by it. I thought, hmm, maybe I can do something more.

Everything changed when I posted my 13th posts. I made a video about why I choose to move to the UK instead of the US. It was not shady or anything, I was truly just sharing my experienced. I love the US, and I studied abroad there when I was 17, however, at the age of 18 I decided to move to the UK. And I thought, maybe I could just share my experience. I was also inspired by someone who shared their experience of why they decided to move to Germany instead of the US. Because I have a similar experience, with the UK in my case, I decided to make the video. This time, I tried to put more effort into using a better camera and lighting. After I record the video, I edit it the next day. I honestly wasn’t expecting anything, I just thought it would be fun to make one like this …

and BOOM! in only 15 minutes after I posted it, it reached 3,000 views. I was like … how?? Suddenly I became nervous, I put my phone away and checked it again after 45 minutes, it went to 10,000 views, and I was like … wait, what?? Then I left my phone and checked it again after 2 hours, it was almost 50,000 views, … OMG! I was shocked, and suddenly the rest of my videos views went up, my followers grow and my likes grow. That video that I uploaded a month ago now has more than 100,000 views. This might not look a lot for famous people, but for an ordinary girl like me, that just testing the water and doing it for fun, it was a lot.

I was thinking to myself, this is crazy. Now I understand how people can suddenly become famous. I mean I have 20k followers on Instagram, but that is different, I work years and years for that. It wasn’t a one-night famous thing. But with that videos, it kinda shook me. I enjoyed making Tik Tok anyway so I decided to make more. I made one sharing my experience living in the UK, titled ‘Stages of Living in the UK’ (which was a joke by the way), but that one reached over 50,000 views. The comments on that video were very entertaining, it was nice to see people different views on things, and nice to see that some people experience what I experienced. Then, I make another joke videos about the weather in the UK, and that reached over 100,000 views. I honestly can’t believe it, I have over 250,000 views in total, in only what, a month? I don’t know about you, but that’s insane to me.

Not all my videos went viral, some only have a couple of thousands of views, some even only have a couple of hundreds of views. But those that went viral, I still can’t believe it. I was literally only been on Tik Tok properly for a month. I guess for all the videos that went viral, I was most excited to see people’s comments and thoughts on the thing I posted, to see their participation in the video, to see that they actually watched it. How the share their experiences, their views, and opinions on some of the topics I mentioned. Of course, some of the comments are not very nice, but that’s just the cost you have to pay if your videos suddenly went viral. You just have to learn that, first, not everyone gets your joke, and second, everyone has a different opinion on things, and we should let them embrace it. After all, that’s the beauty of social media.

I tried to make this as short as possible, so I apologize if this ends up being a long post. But I just want to share my story, and maybe you experience the same thing, or maybe you just curious about Tik Tok. I guess the moral of the story is that you never know what is going to happen. Sometimes you just test the water on something, and it turns out to be great. Of course, Tik Tok is just for fun, and it’s one of those things that I enjoy doing. But the fact that I was just testing the water and did not expect anything turns out to be something unexpected just surprised me. I realized that life is full of surprises, and that’s the beauty of life.

How to Overcome Emotional Numbness

It’s easy for us to feel numb towards everything, especially when we are in between period or some people call it hangover period. Emotional numbness is dangerous because it could lead into depression. I’m just going to be honest, I don’t know why I have been feeling numb lately. Everything in my life is going okay, but I don’t know why I don’t feel really ‘happy’ or really ‘sad’ about anything or everything. I guess life just become a little bit predictable and I lost that excitement. Step by step I have overcome it, and there are certain things that I have done which is very helpful that I want to share it with you guys. I also realised that I’m not the only one who’s been feeling like this lately, therefore I have decided to write a blog post about how to overcome emotional numbness.

Take off your mask

When we feel numb, we don’t feel anything and we tend to fake everything. When people ask whether we’re okay or not, we will say that we are okay when we are not (not knowing whether we’re okay or not means that we’re not okay). It is difficult to open up to someone, especially if you have been hurt before. But it is important to take off your mask once in a while. Not everyone can be trusted, but not everyone can’t be trusted. There are certain people that you can trust. If you find it difficult to trust anyone, you don’t have to take off your mask in front of others. But take off your mask in front of yourself. When we get used to faking everything to everyone, sometimes we don’t realise that we fake it to ourselves too, and this is dangerous. We have to be honest with ourselves, about what actually is happening or why we feel the way we feel, what makes us feel numb and why we don’t know the reasons of this emotional numbness. It’s okay if you can’t find the answer, but we need to be honest with ourselves and let ourselves know what we’re going through.

Find an Inspiration

Finding an inspiration is crucial to overcome emotional numbness. When you feel numb, it is easy to slip in and feel like your life don’t have a purpose anymore. With an inspiration, you could try to build your life purpose again step by step. It is not easy and sometimes it takes a while to be inspired again when you feel numb, but you will get there. Just keep looking for it. You don’t have to travel the world to find an inspiration, you could just use your laptop and find inspirations from tumblr or pinterest or other things that excite you. For me, I like to look at others bloggers website or look at some websites of big companies, organisations and firms I want to work with in the future. It gives me motivations to continue doing what I am doing and help me to remind myself that I am not alone (in the case of others bloggers website) and I have a goal in the near future (in the case of big companies, organisations and firms website).

Turn off social media

We live in the world where everyone is using social media almost twelve hours a day (which is a lot). Social media sometimes affect our mental health in a negative way. There are too much pressure there. It is very easy to compared ourselves to others on social media. I’m just going to be honest you guys, sometimes I feel like I’m not good enough because there are so many others bloggers and influencers out there that have good quality of their posts or their accounts are just amazing. It’s easy to slip in and to feel insecure, which could lead into emotional numbness. Sometimes I feel numb when I get to the point where I say ‘Okay, they are much more better than me, and there is nothing I can do about it’. That acceptance of me being not good enough for social media (which is wrong) makes me feel numb towards social media, my platform, and even to my life. I realised that the only way to stop this nonsense is to turn off social media and live my life without it for a while. I turned off social media (literally off everything) for about 3 days, and once I did it for a week. It helps a lot, and it makes me realise how stupid I was for thinking that way. If you have experienced this, turn off your social media after reading this blog post. It is the first step for you to overcome this nonsense, because let me tell you, there is only one you in this world and that is your power!

Do something you are passionate about

When you feel numb sometimes it’s because you feel bored of your life. Like, there is no excitement, things are not bad but not good either. It’s normal, stable, and predictable. To overcome this numbness you need to give colour to your life again and the best way to do it is to do something you are passionate about. Find something you really enjoy doing, take one day off work then use that to do something you love. This could be many things and each of you have different things you’re passionate about. It could be something with arts, drawing, painting, playing a piano or guitar or violin, dancing, ballet, watching a theatre or opera. It could be something with sports, basketball, badminton, run a marathon, football, watching a match or play it with your friends or anyone. It could be writing, baking a cake or cupcakes, reading, travelling, riding a horse, hiking in a mountain on your own. It could be many things. There are so many things in this world we can do, there are so many options for it, we just need to find one thing that we passionate about and do it with love.

Listen to yourself

It’s important to listen to yourself. Don’t listen to others, listen to you, because in the end, this is your life and you are the author of your life. Yes, other people opinions matters sometimes, but not everyone opinions are valid to you. Most importantly, at this stage of your life when you feel emotional numbness, listening to others opinions about certain situations you are going through or as simple as their opinions on your life will not help you. Instead, this will only make you feel more confused which will make you feel even more numbness. In the before I have mentioned about turning off social media, one of the main purposed of this is for you to be with yourself only or with people that you trust. Social media sometimes could be too much for our mental health, the expectation they have over there could give so much pressure to us that will make us compared our life to people in social media which lead to us to feel numb to our life. Make quality time with you, listen to your heart and soul, listen to yourself. Because in the end of the day, deep down our hearts we all know the answers of our questions.
